The Fan 590

OH MY GOD.  Alan Ashby - announcer for the blue jays & the fan 590 - just said "it's gotten to the point where I don't care what Edwin Encarnacion says you just can't let him handle the leather".  Fucking Awesome.  I love the fact that he doesn't hold back!

Jays Game Today

We're listening to the game at work today and Morrow's got two outs in the inning, the Jays are up 7-0 and this asshole at work goes "Morrow hasn't even had a guy in scoring position."  And now, 4 runs later the same asshole says "No lead is safe at Fenway that's for sure".

Three Day Weekend

Saw the Jays in person this weekend Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  I thought the only shot they had at winning was friday when Kyle Kendrick faced off against Ricky Romero but I was wrong cause the bullpen blew that game.

We only won sunday.  Cliff Lee gave up two home runs in an inning quite uncharacteristically to Thames & Bautista.  However, it brought my Bautista witnessing homer games to 3 in a row this weekend.  He hit one EVERY SINGLE GAME THIS WEEKEND.   I'm so glad June is over so he can get back to clobbering the ball.

Personally I came out of this weekend on a sweet note.  I'd never been to three Jays games in a row.  Plus, I nabbed a Canada Day T-Shirt, A Mr Sub Bag, A Vote Jose button (for a three $ donation) and a batting practice foul ball!  The foul ball can get wiped off my bucket list and the rest is just gravy!!!

Doc

Romero pitched a complete game shutout today & even got a two RBI single in the process. It was great to see the entire starting staff giving him an ovation from the dugout.

In other news Doc Halliday got his 10th win of the season today and is 30 - 3 lifetime with the Phillies when they give him a lead since leaving the Jays. What an ace that guy is!  Can't wait to see him @ Rogers Center this weekend.

Bautista BOMB!

Wow.  9th inning Bautista Bomb to take the lead 5-4 in St. Louis.  Wow.  Hopefully he's coming out of that slump going to be on fire going into July.  Way to pick up Morrow who gave up an uncharacteristic two homers tonight.  Go Jays Go!

McCoy sent down, Thames recalled

It was just announced that Mike McCoy just went back to Vegas & Eric Thames was recalled as if this is supposed to break the Jays out of this hitting slump.

I'll wager, in some alternate universe Brett Lawrie & his swagger were brought up one series earlier than when he broke his hand, and the Jays are soaring 5 games above .500 right now.  Lordie we need Lawrie.

Bautista HR Leader Still

Bautista had not hit a homer in 8 games, he hits one today to stay on top of the leader board in homers in all of MLB.  How frigging awesome was the first two months of the season that he can have only 2 dingers in June and still lead all of MLB.  That is pretty effin incredible.

Sunday, 19 June 2011

Pitching

The last two days the Jays have received two excellent performances from their starters.  Morrow improved to 3 - 0 on the road!  He pitched 6 & 2/3 innings without giving up a run.  The bullpen came in and shut down the Reds which is good, cause the bullpen has been driving me crazy lately.

Carlos Villanueva pitched a great outing, only giving up 2 runs, but the Jays offence could only produce one run.  Solid effort.  Carlos had a streak of 84 consecutive outings without giving up a loss before today's performance!  Most of that was out of the bullpen but man, he's the complete opposite of Jo Jo Reyes.  How come we heard all about Jo Jo's negative streak, but this is the first time I heard about Carlos' streak?  Odd.

Escobar Extension

The Jays signed Escobar for 2012 & 2013 @ 5 mil a piece.  They also have club options for 2014 & 2015 at the same price.  This seems a lot like the Aaron Hill deal a while back and is a pretty sweet move by the Jays.

The only thing I wonder, is where this puts their "star" cuban shortstop in the minors?  Does Adeiny Hechavarria become trade bait to the Yankees as they try to find a replacement for Jeter?  Do they move him to second base because we've got a gaping hole there if we decide to cut Hill loose at the end of the season (please do)?

Zach Stewart

Zach Stewart made his MLB debut in a game vs the Orioles yesterday.  I listened to the game at work on The Fan 590 and I liked what I heard.  Stewart only gave up 1 hit in the first five innings, but the next hit in the sixth was a home run.  Still, a very impressive debut, hopefully we get many more shut out innings in the future from him.

Of course, the bullpen came in to a tie game and handed it over to the Orioles.  Their first win at Skydome since August 2009.  A pity since Mr Stewart gave such a commanding performance in the early going.

Lind had a 2 run shot and is still very much on fire.  I still can't wait for Lawrie to get healed & into this line up.  I'd love to see him hit second, Bautista third, Lind fourth & Arencibia hit fifth.

The Jays are in WKRP Cincinnati tonight, and while I will (of course) be rooting for the Jays, I still hope fellow Canadian Joey Votto puts on a good show for us.  Go Jays Go.

Jays vs Orioles Recap

K's & Homers.  Escobar & River had solo homers, Lind with a 2 run shot (he's on fire since coming back).  Ricky matched a career high with 12 K's.  Rumor has it he dropped an "eh" in batting practice a couple days ago - he's now an honorary Canadian and has evened his record to 6-6 while the Jays came back up to .500 as well.

Ashby had a pretty funny comment after he saw the first two pitches in the 9th to Gurrerro "You'd have to check the record books to see the last time Vlad watched two strikes go by without swinging".  Funny guy, great announcer.

Zack Stewart is making his MLB debut tomorrow.  We'll have to tune in to see how that goes.

Drabek

Disappointed. That is the only word I have for the demotion of Kyle Drabek to Vegas.  I feel like he needed to work out his struggles up here, but, I'm not the GM.  I know that Drabeck & Morrow have been having their troubles this season, but I feel like dealing with it up here will only make it better down the line when we're a contender.

Even Jo Jo Reyes has made me a believer after his 28 straight starts without a winner.  This season is for shit, we all know it.  Why not let Drabek, Morrow, Cecil & hell Litsch sort it out up here so two years from now we can destroy all advocates?

Blue Jays vs Red Sux

I went to the game yesterday - a 16 to 4 win for the Red Sox.  It sucked cause it was the first game I'd seen Morrow pitch this year & I was wearing my Morrow jersey. My boss gave me his Row 1 tickets so I decided we were going to put up K's in Morrow's honor.  Well, after 4 K's we gave up cause the score was like 12 -2 for the Red Sux or something stupid.  Morrow had been yanked and had given up 9 runs in the process.  He was a slow starter last year & I can only pray it's the same way this year.

I guess the only silver lining from the day was that I started taking pictures & eventually video with my i-touch.  Below are some shots of Morrow pitching, Bautista hitting & Lind avoiding a fastball (for the ladies).  I will post some video a bit later after I've edited it.

Jays VS Boston

Got FREEBIE tix for Saturday: Jays VS Red Sux while Morrow is on the mound.  Can't wait to go out there with the "LORDIE WE NEED LAWRIE" sign and have Morrow shut down the Red Sux with 28 strikeouts.  SWEET!!!!!!!!

Jays vs KC tonight

We go into the seventh inning stretch 6-5 for the Blue Jays.  Drabek didn't pitch bad but he didn't pitch great either.  Five runs over 6 plus innings vs the Royals ain't fantastic.

The first run of the game is the one that really stands out: Escobar attempted to steal second and the throw went into center field.  Escobar then went to third while Melky Cabrera threw into the dugout & Escobar went home.  Sweet "gimme" run, gave me a good feeling about tonight.  And really, now it is the difference in the game.

Monday, 6 June 2011

Jays vs KC

Morrow pitched a great game tonight with JPA behind the plate. I guess he doesn't need Molina after all. Morrow went six innings, gave up two hits, one UNearned run, and had five or so k's.

Of course Camp comes in & makes sure Morrow doesnt get the win by giving up a run. Seems to me every time the bullpen comes in during a close game they give up at least one run. Ah well my Internet went down so luckily my neighbors didn't hear me scream.

Jays Vs Orioles today

The game just ended, excellent game on a lot of fronts, highlights include:

- Jo Jo Reyes 2nd win in a row
- Escobar's three run HR
- Lind goes 4/4 his second game back with 2 hr's.  Well done Lind!

Bautista's hitting .354 with 20 hrs but I can't remember when his last homer was.  Feels like it's been a good week.  I'll be looking for him to explode with 4 hrs in the next three games with Lind protecting him.

Your Toronto Blue Jays

I haven't posted here in a bit cause - I'm very superstitious.  The Jays were on an awesome winning streak at home, scoring a ton of runs which I didn't want to fuck up especially with Morrow coming up in the pitching rotation.  Of course, as you know Morrow & Drabek didn't fare so well in the last couple days.  Alas, there is hope cause rumors are stirring that Brett Lawrie is coming up from Triple A ball this weekend to join the show.  Which is awesome.

LORDIE WE NEED LAWRIE.

That was going to be my sign next time I stepped into Rogers Center, but hopefully I won't need it!!  Bring the big bat up I say!  We need the help at third base.

Morrow

Morrow pitched an effing brilliant game tonight but was let down by the bullpen. :(

John Harper's Jealousy

I'm not sure if you've been keeping tabs on this story from the NY Times, but it seems that John Harper has all but made up his mind that Bautista is on performance enhancing drugs.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2011/05/24/2011-05-24_new_hr_king_swats_some_doubters_not_all.html

Now I admit I don't know jack about Harper but would he be asking these same questions if Bautista was a Yankee?  Did he ask these same questions about Giambi, A-Rod, Pettitte or Clemens at the time they were actually doing steroids & playing for the Yankees?

I guess Harper must have missed the part where Bautista said recently that he had been tested twice in the last month for performance enhancers along with some of his teammates.

Harper ends his piece saying "Bautista is a great story. Let's hope he's legit".

I end this piece by saying "Harper is a jealous asshole.  Even if he's legit".

Rusty.

Tough Loss

Oh man that was one tough loss tonight for the Jays.  Plenty of miscues in the 9th inning.  I was wondering if Farrell pulled RR early in the 8th and I guess my intuition was right.  Ah well, afternoon game tomorrow will make the work day go faster....hopefully.

that home plate ump should be fired

The Jays lost today. Bautista & Hill were rung up on pitches a foot outside, Dan Mellino should have his umpire license revoked immediately. Maybe u can get away with point shaving in the NBA but not in MLB. I'll bet we find out later this clown is in huge gambling debt. Cheating bastard.

Jays Win Tonight

Jays had a great comeback win tonight. They came back from a 4-0 nothing deficit to beat the Astros & pick up Morrow.

The incredible Jose Bautista had two jacks with runners on base (finally)! Yunel hit a key 2 run homer to lift the Jays on top.

Glad to see the Jays might be jelling offensively...but I do desperately want Lind back.

Jays tonight

The Jays imploded tonight costing Jo-Jo Reyes his first win in three years. It sucks for sure but if you haven't won in 3 years u gotta thank Jesus u r still on an MLB team let alone still a starting pitcher.

5 in a MORROW!

Jays won today bringing the tally to five straight wins!  Keep up the good work boys.

Of course, the big story today is three home runs in three straight at bats for Hip Hip Jose Bautista.  This guy is killing the ball right now.  His average is around .360, his OPS is 1.315 (usually .800 is good) and he's got 16 home runs, which is 9 more than he had at this point last year.  Frigging unreal.  So I guess he's on pace to pass triple digits in home runs this year!  Sweet.

You gotta wonder if the Yankees & Boston are trying to steal samples of his DNA so they can clone him 9 times each.

Jays vs Red Sox tonight

Ah ha ha.  Jerry just gave us the game recap on the Fan tonight and said "the Jays just batted around to roll a 5".  Slick.  Love last night's winning game with Cooper's RBI's.  Loving tonight.  A mini-sweep of Boston would be sweet.

Morrow gets Yanked after giving up 2 Runs

I kinda waited to review yesterdays game cause I was a bit pissed off that Farrell yanked Morrow with the bases loaded after giving up two runs.  I figured like Zaun was saying maybe Farrell knows something we don't.

So what did Farrell say?  A: "His arm angle dropped" B: "I would have done that to any pitcher"

First let's address "A".  I don't have the video on this but the Drunk Jays Fans have checked the video vs his last start and said there's no change.  I side with them and I call "BULLSHIT FARRELL".

Next is B.  No, you would not have done this to any pitcher.  I seem to remember you leaving Jo Jo Reyes out there for every one of his starts till the game was well over.   You jumped the gun and I call BULLSHIT on that too.

Also, as pointed out to me by DJF: why the fuck are you sending Dotel out to pitch against lefties?  Are you trying to see how high a On Base Percentage can get vs lefties?  Cause that is the only fucking reason I understand.

As you all can see, I have totally calmed down by waiting 24 hours....

Detroit VS Jays

I'm going to the game tonight so I'm hoping for the win.  Tix are pretty decent, 523, right behind home, row 1.  This will be my fourth game this year after two games opening weekend, and one game vs the Tampa Bay on April 24.  Their record this year while I'm at the park is 1-2, they'd better even it up tonight.

Foul Ball

I caught this foul ball while listening to the game on The Fan 590 @ work.  That's how awesome radio is.  Unfortunately another loss for my Jays.

Morrow Win!!

OMG I thought Franky might have lost that shit for Morrow....that would have PISSED me the FUCK OFF! Morrow 1, rest of the world: 0!

OMG Jays Haircut!

Okay, I thought I was a super-fan of the Jays but I do not freaking compare to this guy:

Lind's 2 Run Jack!

With Adam Lind's 2 run to start the ballgame tonight he has tied the AL lead with 25 RBI's.  SWEET.  Way to pick up the team while Bautista is off!

Tuesday, 3 May 2011

Bautista OUT

Holy Crap the Jays are in some serious trouble with Bautista undergoing an MRI.  He's not expected to return to the lineup until the weekend.  FACK.  This could be bad.  I'm still betting it relates to that shot at his head sometime last week.  And I just got freebie tickets for Friday night.  Hope he's back.

I've just tuned into the game now and somehow we're winning without Bautista.  Still wish Hayhurst was up with the Rays instead of being in triple A.  I was listening to the Rays announcers for a bit and holy crap those guys sound FLAT.  No excitement what-so-ever.

Sunday, 1 May 2011

Weekend vs the Yankees

I haven't said much about the last couple games cause I haven't caught much of the last two games.  I did see McCoy on Saturday going full tilt into right field catching a fly ball basket style.  I didn't think he had a shot at it - well freakin done!

I was listening to the game today but I fell asleep when we were winning 2-1 and awoke to us losing 5-2.  Then Bautista left the game with neck stiffness which is probably related to that ball he almost took in the head the other day.  Hopefully it's nothing and he doesn't end up on the DL for a stretch cause that would suck royally.

Rivera's getting hot and playing left field.  I'd still way rather have Snider struggling at the plate and playing left because I can't give a crap about Juan "Vernon Wells II" Rivera.  He's old, slow, and uh, old and slow and I don't believe for a second this guy gives a crap about this team (I can't say I blame him cause he knows we don't want him).  I mean, do we really think he can get hot enough that we dump him at the deadline and get prospects.....I highly doubt he's going to be in demand.  The only way I can see that happening is if we give up someone valuable and make them take his sorry ass.

Speaking of Snider, I hear he's 6 for 6 in Vegas.

Rally Gone Wrong turns into Rally Gone Right

HOLY FUCK!  I was ready to go hit the bar with the sales department when Bautista hits a two run jack in the next half of the inning!  Woo hoo!  9 frigging homers in April!  Could this guy be the first one to hit triple digit numbers in the home run column in one year?  Only time will tell.

Rally Gone Wrong

FUCK!  I fucking hate it when your ALMOST RALLY turns into a rally for the other team in the bottom half of the inning.  It's only 1 run but I fucking hate it when this shit happens - this is why baseball is evil.  I frigging hate cheater A-rod ever since the debacle when he called out MINE running from second to third confusing Johnny Mac.  That shit was called a Posada double and that is PURE FUCKING BULLSHIT.

Apr 29 vs NYY

DAMN IT.  It's only the middle of the second and the Jays are already 0 - 5 with runners in scoring position. You've got guys on second & third with 1 out you HAVE to least sac fly that guy in.  Johnny Mac you're awesome but you HAVE TO SAC FLY THAT GUY IN.

End of April/Top Three in Baseball

So April is almost over and there's a couple surprises in who has risen to the top so far.  Colorado has the best winning percentage in the league at .696%.  I know they have a good team but I can't say I would have predicted they'd be leading all of baseball.  Usually you just have to be above .500 to contend in either west division.

Then two are tied at second place with .667% which are Philly & Cleveland.  Cleveland?  Seriously?  Cleveland has been a joke for as far back as I can remember.  Can these guys seriously being contenders in August or September?  Only time will tell I guess.

On the flip side did anyone expect the Twins & Red Sox to be sub-500?  Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that the Red Sox are losing, but I kinda think in the back of my head maybe they just didn't try in the first week of the season so it would be a good "worst to first" story at the end of the year.  One of those "triumph over adversity" bs puff pieces for the world series.

What Did I Miss?

What did I miss?  Well, as soon as Dotel came into the game last night I shut it off.  That's simply my rule.  I can't watch that guy pitch....it should be my rule for Frasor as well, and maybe Franky Fransisco cause he takes three years to make a single pitch but we'll see how it goes next time.  So I missed the loss yesterday.  I'd say it was a shame but Jo Jo fell apart in the third after E3's error but let's face it he wouldn't be here if he wasn't out of options.

What else did I miss?  The whole day game.  I forgot it was getaway day and I missed Morrow pitch.  I was at a router seminar which is somewhat of an excuse but I stupidly forgot about getaway day so I probably would've missed it at work too.  Missing Morrow pitch is equal to treason in my books.  His 17K one hitter last year makes me believe he is the Stieb of right now.  I believe in this guy, I know he can succeed.

I also missed Hip Hip Jose taking a ball off the wrist that everyone thought he took off the head.  He says he's okay on Twitter - and let's hope that he is - cause he's the most consistent, best, kick ass, god-like player we have right now.

Alright, and last but not least............I have been avoiding Getting Blanked & Drunk Jays Fans lately because of all the Farrell bashing.  It's his first year, he's gonna make mistakes, and I can live with that but apparently those guys can't.  Fact of the matter is, we all think we could run this team better than the manager, or the GM or whomever.

That being said........I have to agree with these guys on the demotion of Snider.  I can't fathom this move.  I have no idea why Rivera has been in the lineup (regardless of him being hot for three days), or Edwin at third ever (even with injuries) but for crying out loud Snider's only problem was that he shaved his moustache going into Seattle.  Ever since he shaved that thing off he hasn't hit.  I can't blame him for shaving it off cause it looked like shit (I know cause I'm 10 years older and all I can grow is that same shit moustache) but for the love of God you're a baseball player and superstition is a part of your existence.  When you're on a hot streak you can't change a thing - you can't change your socks, wash the underwear you're wearing, let a black cat cross your path, cut your hair and most importantly - you CAN'T SHAVE!  I can only hope that @lunchboxhero45 loses his razor & finds his groove again so he's back up with the club permanently.

Hip Hip Jose

2 Run RBI single by Bautista!!!  Sweet.  The Jays pull back within 1.

Memo to Corey Patterson: catch the frigging ball, don't fear the wall.

- Rusty Army

E3

Error from the third baseman? Are we shocked? Hell no! Edwin's playing third. We could have a couple more before the inning is done.

Tuesday, 26 April 2011

Brett Lawrie

What's the difference between Lawrie & Drabek?  Why dosen't AA care about the clock ticking on Drabek, but wants to keep Lawrie in Vegas for two months before bringing the swagger up?  Imagine Larwie hitting above .400 4 the Jays right now in the 2 spot.  Bautista would have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more RBI's.  Jays would have way more wins with Rivera on the bench or released into oblivion where he belongs.

THAT WOULD BE SWEET.

View from 100 Level in Skydome on Easter Sunday

Ah yeah, I just got a free sweet new Panoramic app for my Ipod..  Check out the view from above of the field from the hundred level at the dome.  Platinum.

Litsch: 91 pitches thru 6 innings, allows three runs and is probably done for the night.  Pretty sweet line.

Alan Ashby

Ah ha ha.  Alan Ashby just said on The Fan 590 that he wasn't sure you could play Bautista deep enough without a seat in the bleachers.  Nice.  Funny.

Adam Lind.

Ya know, Adam Lind deserves several other words.  This guy makes you forget the words Lyle Overbay ever existed.  He has been frigging brilliant at FIRST this year so far.  I am totally impressed.  I would have figured he'd have 5 errors or so by know.

Adam Lind's Three Run Dinger

Woo.  Called by the Texas radio announcers as "a massive three run shot into the upper deck".  Nice one Lind.  Before I can even type this sentence, Rivera is out #2 (I am SHOCKED, shocked beyond belief).

But in all seriousness I hope Rivera gets hot enough that someone trades for this "veteran bat" by the trade deadline & we get a draft pick or...hey, I'd settle for a bag of baseballs for batting practice if they take his 5.5 mil salary.  Of course, it's way better than having Vernon 'overpaid & useless' Wells for the rest of his contract by FAR.  Win for A.A.!

10-3 Jays.  Super Sweet.  Love it!

Texas Rally Tonight

Uh.......I think this rally by Texas might be my fault.  I'm listening via MLB Gameday and I was wondering if Young was in the lineup cause of all the bad blood between Young & the Rangers.  I started cycling through the lineup in the bottom right beyond the "on deck" & "in the hole" pictures until I found Young at seventh in the lineup.  Clearly I'm responsible for all these Rangers getting up to plate.

Won't happen again.  I promise.

Titanium Jays Gear

http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10887680&cp=1452370.1452931.880836

I've seen Bautista (aka Hip Hip Jose) wearing this titanium necklace, as well as a couple of the pitchers, but it's not in the Jays Shop at the Dome or on the Canadian Jays website (only the US site so ya hafta pay duties & taxes).  What the frig?  My Jays are wearing it, my Canadian ass wants to wear one.

Jays VS Tex tonight

Oh wow, the Fan 590 just shed some light on Snider's slump - saying that everyone is pitching Snider down & away until he proves he can hit that pitch.  I just thought Snider was slumping cause he shaved off his moustache going into his hometown Seattle.

5-0 in the top of the first - I frigging love it.  Johnny Mac (aka Neo) keeps the inning going and gets Ribbie (RBI).  Sweet.  Oh SWEET Johhny Mac steals SECOND.  SWEET!!!!!!!!!!  Ah yeah.

Johnny Mac

Johnny Mac is Neo & the infield is his matrix!

Juan Rivera

Is it me or has anyone told Juan Rivera he's in a contract year?  Despite tonight's home run this guy has been completely useless since game 2 of the season when he failed to go first to third on a single.  I would have benched him right then and there.  Hell, Greg Z working the broadcast booth and DH could have a better OBP
than Rivera.  I didn't think anyone could be more overpaid & useless in Toronto than Vernon but I'm starting to believe in Rivera.  Hill sucks crap too.

2011 Jays

Frasor.  Why do I cringe every time I hear this guy is warming up?  Recently I guess it’s that run he gave up on the 6th vs the A’s.  He doesn’t deserve the win for that game, I say give it to Escobar.

Ideal lineup: I can’t wait for the day Morrow is the ace of the staff, with Romero, Drabek & Deck McQuire behind him in the rotation.  Maybe Doc come’s back after his stint in Philly.  I gotta say, I am near orgasmic for the day Alex & Farrell have the young stars of tomorrow in the batting order/on the field looking somewhat like this:
  1. Gose CF
  2. Lawrie 3B
  3. Hechavarria SS
  4. Bautista RF
  5. Snider LF
  6. Lind 1B
  7. Veteran with some pop…I dunno at this point DH
  8. Arencibia/D’Arnaud C
  9. 2B?  who cares…..anyone but A.Hill.

Maybe Hechavarria drops down to 9 as a second leadoff hitter a la Rickey Henderson back in 93.  I dunno, it depends on who’s DH & 2B.  I admit I don’t even know who they have in the pipeline for 2b but I know I don’t want Hill there.  I’m so glad they declined his three year option!  I could have totally grounded out myself with the bases loaded in game 2 of the 2011 season.
